From top to bottom Argentina is a bird lovers paradise. Recently Heidi and I traveled across Argentina searching for beautiful views, hikes, and of course wildlife. We knew that incredible hikes to glaciers, mountain vistas, lakes, and waterfalls existed across the country but we were surprised at the amazing birdwatching opportunities.

The same places you travel for amazing views; Ushuaia, El Calafate, El Chalten, and Iguazu are the same places that birders 'in the know' travel for big time bird watching. The different environments change from cold ocean in Ushuai, to desert and freshwater lakes in Patagonia, to tropical jungle in Iguazu. Because of this the opportunities to see very different bird species change as well, from penguins down south to toucans up north.

Tern hovering over the water

Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego National Park: We will start down south in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. Here a boat trip out into the famous Beagle Canal gives you chances to see comorants, penguins, skuas, albatross, and terns, among other deep south ocean birds. Then a trip into Tierra del Fuego provides a wonderful chance for forest birds, like the Magellanic woodpecker, austral parakeet, and southern caracara as well as freshwater species like the spectacled duck and steamer duck.

Chilean Flamingos, Reserva Laguna Nimez

El Calafate and El Chalten: A 17 hour bus ride or couple hour flight to the north takes you deep into the heart of Patagonia. Here the snow capped peaks of the Andes Mountains send glacial fed rivers out into the desert-like landscape of Patagonian ranchlands. This uncommon environments is home to some amazing birdlife. Ostrich-like landbirds called rhea run amongst the prickly calfate shrubs, while caracara, condors, and eagles line the fence post and circle the sky looking for their next meal.

Upland Goose, El Calafate

In El Calafate the edge of the glacial lake a quaint nature reserve called the Reserva Laguna Nimez plays host to a multitude of exotic species like the Chilean flamingo, upland goose, southern lapwings, and nesting harriers. Also if you get a chance to drive towards Perito Moreno Glacier on some of the back roads you increase your opportunities for condor, eagle, caracara, and rhea
sightings.

Iguazu Falls: All the way on the north eastern border of Argentina and Brazil you will find a totally different environment housing new species of birds. It almost feels like you are descending into the Amazon basin as you walk around the miles of boardwalks set up for sightseeing inside the Iguazu Falls National Park. The trick here is to come early in the morning before the crowds. This will give you your best shot for seeing rare toucan species that call this area home. Great dusky swifts are seen near the waterfalls, their nest actually hidden in the cliffs behind the falling water. Another can't miss are the plush-crested jays. These beautiful birds frequent the boardwalks, especially where visitors tend to stop for picnic style snacks.

It turns out that South America is one of the best places in the world for birding. Thousands of species exists on the continent leaving you all kinds of options. Argentina is such a birding hot spot because the country stretches across so many different ecosystems. Just another reason to add it to your travel list.

Good morning friends ! Today I want to tell you about the day a friend took me on a tour, it was a surprise for me even though he had already told me a lot about this place. It's great to go out and meet a place that has been recommended to you!

Buen día amigos ! Hoy les quiero contar el día que un amigo me llevó de paseo, fue una sorpresa para mí aunque ya me había contado mucho sobre este lugar. Es grandioso salir a conocer un lugar que te han recomendado!

Colon Fabrica (1).png

It was Sunday and I was quite bored, my friend had already mentioned this place several times, and it seemed to him that I was going to love it. Everything he told me sounded interesting to me, but as I am also a little unbelieving, I just had to go and see.

Colon Fabrica (2).png

So we set out on our journey. We left my house and crossed a large part of the capital, heading for San Telmo, La Boca, Barracas, towards the waterfront that divides the south of the capital.

Así emprendimos el viaje. Salimos de mi casa y atravesamos gran parte de la capital, rumbo a San Telmo, La boca, Barracas, rumbo a la costanera que divide el sur de la capital.

Colon Fabrica (3).png

As soon as we arrived we had problems paying the entrance fee, as they did not accept cash and we did not have a specific card that they asked for. We solved it with a basic debit card and went in.

Colon Fabrica (19).png
Colon Fabrica (20).png
Colon Fabrica (22).png

The girl at the reception explains to us how is the tour selected by the foundation. She tells us that here they keep all the curtains and some assembled installations. All this cannot be touched. But to my surprise, the costumes on display can be touched !

We go in, I am still stunned by the locker room information. I immediately see Hamlet and decide to touch and move his cape. All the way through I'm dazed thinking about what it must be like to perform with these clothes and props on.

Entramos, yo sigo anonadada por el dato de los vestuarios. En seguida veo a Hamlet y decido tocar y mover su capa. Todo el recorrido me obnubilo pensando en lo que debe ser actuar con esta ropa y utilería encima.

The most exposed parts have a screen in front of them where you can see some scenes of the original work and both performances and furniture in mobility. You can see traffic circles turning, actors climbing stairs, etc.

Colon Fabrica (8).png

Colon Fabrica (7).png

The world of costumes has always had something striking for me, because of my acting background or because of the number of years I spent in school doing this kind of work, designs and colors. I see the colors and combinations in fabric designs, contrasts, types of fabrics, in short. Everything is delightful in this place. Sometimes I get nostalgic and want to go back to something as pleasurable and artistic as acting, wearing other clothes, and telling someone else's story.

Colon Fabrica (33).png

Colon Fabrica (23).png

The more we walk and the more childlike I become. I try on war hats, sit on big thrones, and take the funniest pictures. I laugh with some kids doing the same as me, and some moms and dads too. It's really quite a short tour, but it allows you to enjoy it and go through it several times.

Colon Fabrica (11).png

There are not many people inside, because we arrived when there is little time left before closing, anyway we are all taking pictures and enjoying the tour, quietly it is something you go through in half an hour, although it is nice to stop and be able to check a little more, read about the works and browse the different things.

Colon Fabrica (12).png

There are some scenographies that remind me of my theater days, at least in their colors, composition, and it takes me directly to the creation of things, the different props were assembled by ourselves, so when I see so much here done in a professional way, I remember myself making sure that things didn't break or work on the day of the premiere.

Colon Fabrica (13).png

Colon Fabrica (10).png

The dimensions of the props and scenery are absurd. Two or three times the human size. It's like to feel tiny, but in the play everything makes sense. You really walk on mixed scenery, everything is very much in sight, a vast and open space, except for some corners, everything can be seen somewhat chaotic from afar, but to find beauty in each figure that appears before me and to be able to take a picture, to smile because I can not imagine what it must mean and above all, to be able to stop in front of a screen where I see all these items in motion. It has exceeded my expectations of appeal. This place is a great trigger for my mind.

Pehuen-co is a tourist destination with natural beauty and tranquility. Pehuen-co is a tourist destination with natural beauty and tranquility.

There are some spas on the Argentine coast that have had a true tourist explosion in recent years, and more specifically since 2000.

Places that until then had been a haven for camping, night-time and fishing enthusiasts, suddenly became a place visited by many tourists who wanted peace, tranquility and healthy air.

Numerous cabins for rent began to be built, altering a bit the rugged beauty of the landscape but also giving tourists the possibility of having more comfortable and comfortable accommodation than a tent in a camping.

Fishing in Pehuen-Co attracts an infinite number of tourists every year Fishing in Pehuen-Co attracts an infinite number of tourists every year

Pehuencó is one of those places. And fishing is a resource that began to be exploited for tourism. Not individual fishing in a kayak or a boat, but organized fishing on catamarans or larger boats.

A pleasant experience that I want to talk about and leave testimony with my photos.

An excellent opportunity to visit a spa that still preserves many aspects of its natural, wild, jungle and uncontaminated life and that in turn allows you to make trips, alone or organized, to enjoy the incomparable sensation of fishing.

Fishing from the coast and offshore.

There are several companies dedicated to carry out sport fishing excursions on board in Pehuen-Co. There are several companies dedicated to carry out sport fishing excursions on board in Pehuen-Co.

In Pehuen-Co you can fish from the coast, thanks to the proximity of the sand banks with a great variety, quantity and quality of catches with numerous species of fish, but you can also fish from an offshore boat.

Only 500 meters from the coast, optimal fishing results can already be obtained, although for salmon and great groupers, for example, we have to navigate around 10 nautical miles at least to catch them.

On the beach you can catch dogfish, bacota, scala and a hammerhead fish, not bad to start.

The ideal place is Punta Tejada and you have to travel about 25 kms along the coast, which is why you need an all-terrain vehicle capable of overcoming the numerous obstacles such as dunes, speed bumps, etc. or navigating the coast for a long time. , especially accompanied by expert guides who know where to find the best fishing schools.

You have to be attentive to the winds that blow especially from the south, the only ones capable of ruining an authentic fishing party day.

The advantages of Pehuen Co.

Pehuen Co is a tourist town of 681 inhabitants; making it ideal for those seeking rest, tranquility and privacy.Pehuen Co is a tourist town of 681 inhabitants; making it ideal for those seeking rest, tranquility and privacy.

Pehuen Co has several great advantages:

It is fished well throughout the year with typical varieties in each season of the year.

It is fished well in quantity and quality of species.

The sink is almost simultaneous to the bottom, that is to say, it hardly stops navigating and fishing begins.

There is no mass tourism in the area that could compromise fishing.

Los Acantilados, Mar del Plata

With the new year comes the nostalgia of missing vacation travel. Actually, travel in general. Here in Argentina a few months ago tourism was reopened, but with the request for several special permits and laboratory tests to confirm that you are free of Coronavirus.

This allowed several tourist sectors to reactivate their economy after so many months of desolation, however now the possibility of a return to a strict quarantine is being considered due to the increase in infections that have emerged in recent days.

Visit to Los Acantilados.

That is why we travelers only have to remember the trips we made when it was possible, eager to make others soon. Today I want to share with you this trip to the cliffs of the city of Mar del Plata that I did in 2017 .

The city of Mar del Plata is for excellence the summer destination of the coast of Buenos Aires. In the center of the city, many tourists always accumulate due to its great popularity, but it is enough to go a few miles away from the center to find much quieter places.

My dear Grandma Norma.

acan 1.jpg

"Los Acantilados" beach is located 9 miles from the city center, south of the Punta Mogotes Lighthouse. We went in winter, so that day it was quite cold.

 Los Acantilados out of season.

Los Acantilados

From above, the view was incredible. To access the beach, you had to go down a staircase of approximately 20 meters. Easy to go down, not so easy to go up.

acan5.jpg

Once down, the beach was quiet with some rocks. Since it was winter, there weren't that many people around. Just some people surfing. They surprised me because the day was really cold and they were swimming in their wetsuits.

A quiet beach, without tourists.

acan6.jpg

We spent the afternoon there drinking "mate" (an infusion of yerba mate, which is drunk with a light bulb, shared by everyone present). It should be noted that since the pandemic began, we no longer share "mates"

I would like to know the cliffs in the summer season. It must be beautiful to be swiming in the sea with those rocky views.

A nice view from the rocks.

Note: This post has two peculiarities:

a) It was originally written during the COVID-19 pandemic (or rather, when it was just finishing its ravages in Argentina and the rest of the world)

b) It's a travel tour we took with others at the end of winter. I think it's clear to see how we're dressed.

 Misiones-Iguazu-Falls

I did this trip two years ago with a group of retirees. I must admit that they were very funny people and had a lot of energy, even more than I did sometimes.

It was an 18-hour drive from Buenos Aires to Misiones and they only stopped laughing, singing and dancing on the bus when it was time to sleep.

They perfectly applied for the phrase "youth is only an attitude of the soul."

My travel goals 9 of 23: Misiones and the Falls.

During this trip we visit the Iguazú Falls, located on the border between Argentina and Brazil.

These falls are declared a World Heritage Site and are considered one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. They deserve their titles because they are absolutely wonderful and incredible .

 Iguazu Mational Park

You can visit the falls on both sides, the Argentine and the Brazilian side. The view from Argentina is more panoramic and you can see them from the front, while on the Brazilian side the view is from above.

The day of the visit to the Argentine side was dreamed of, the hot weather and rainbows everywhere. It was excellent. I couldn't believe where so much water came from hahahahaha. I was mesmerized watching him fall without stopping.

But the day we went to the Brazilian side, the weather was very ugly, it was raining and it was gray.

The spectacular Devil's Throat.

From this side you could see from the top the so-called "Devil's Throat", which is the part where the water from the waterfalls begins to fall

Since I don't have a good photo of this day, I want to share a photo from the web so that you know what I am talking about.

This trip was really beautiful, the Iguazu falls are awesome and a landscape that I could always look at for how wonderful it is. I hope that one day you can meet them, you will not regret it .

Well, friends, I've reached my last post in my #travelgoal section (for now). So far, I've visited 9 of the 23 provinces!

All that's left is to wait for the pandemic to end and tourism to resume. I'm really looking forward to seeing what other landscapes my beautiful country has to offer!
